Oh Minita...when will you ever learn?

So today was going just fine until about 3:30 pm. I went on craigslist to check the free stuff to see if I could find a desk for Preston. Wait! What was this? I see a post that lists a desk. So I click on it. It opens up and there's 2 desks listed;

"One IKEA workdesk with shelves
one Sauder type student work desk" .

I was stoked when I called about the desk and the woman said that it was about 3 feet and AVAILABLE!! I was so excited, I practically peed on myself. So, I told her that I'd call her back after 3:30 to check on the status of the desk. (an hour later...) I call her back and LO and BEHOLD the desk is still available. I can't believe my luck! The desk is still available! AT LAST my seemingly endless search for a desk is going to be OVER!!!! I get the kids in the car, empty out the cargo area of the trooper. (Huh, you know, I really need to think up a name for the trooper) So since it's about 3 feet long, it's going to have NO problem fitting in my car even with the kids.

So, I get there in record time, get out of the car and look at the desk. I have to say it looks really nice...and a LOT longer than 36". I ask her again about the length and she tells me that it's 40" tops. *grimace* SIGH...it's okay, I can still make this work. Preston's bed is about 40" in certain places so...after many many minutes of struggling with the 3 carseats in the back to get to the hidden compartment that holds the ever so magical bungee cords. The very nice young men were able to strap the thing to my car. After giving me directions to get home that didn't involve going on the highway, they sent me on my way. So, I (very slowly) crawl home at a whomping 30-35 miles per hour. Get home, get the kids out, grab the tape measure...what??? NO!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The...Desk...is...too...big!!! 48 INCHES is NOT (I repeat "NOT") 40 inches!!! In this instance SIZE MATTERS here folks!!!!

What the heck is that???? Sigh...really? Did I really just go through ALL of that for this abomination of a desk to be strapped to the roof of my car like some furniture road kill?? What am I supposed to do with that?
